A Whisper in Time Bruce Peninsula - Howdenvale Bay

This 1920s log cabin style cottage located in sheltered Howdenvale Bay on Lake Huron. Equidistand (about 20 minutes) from Wiarton or Sauble Beach, with a combination modern conveniences and earlier-era ambience, this cottage makes for a great holiday destination, or romantic getaway.

A Whisper in Time is a cozy one-level cottage with two comfortable bedrooms, a fully-equipped kitchen, 3-piece bathroom, a great room and a sun porch with bar that leads out to a large deck, all nicely furnished with vintage décor, to which the new owners have added some touches and modernization of their own. There are a number of books and board games for indoor fun, and horseshoes and a canoe await you out of doors.

Located on the waterfront, this cottage has a grassy yard that extends to a shared sandy beach with shallow, warm water. The water remains shallow for some distance into the bay, and the sandy bottom has no rocks or vegetation making it ideal for young children, on whom you can keep an eye while reclining in the hammock. The shallow water also ensures less water traffic in the area. The community in the area is small, and this beach is generally quiet and used only by neighbouring cottagers. The Howdenvale government dock is a minute away for boat launching purposes, for those in your party keen on boaing and/or fishing.

With Sauble Beach and Wiarton only a short drive away for restaurants, shopping and other services, plenty of tourist attractions and a number of golf courses of the full-size and mini variety, days begin to plan themselves. A little further north, the Bruce Peninsula offers two of Canada’s National Parks and the village of Tobermory. Scuba diving, snorkelling or a cruise in a glass bottom boat to Flowerpot Island are just some of the popular activities there.

A day outdoors with plenty to do, followed by a relaxing fire on the beach in the evening under the stars and finally falling asleep to the sound of crickets make this cozy cottage a real find to those really looking to get away from it all.

  • What a great authentic log cabin! The perfect spot for relaxing and we could bring the dog as well. The beach was perfect - not too many people. The perfect escape from our busy, hectic lives. Swimming, canoeing, BBQ - the cabin has it all. A little piece of heaven all to yourself.
